“As our annual Corporate Social Investment, ONGEA! exists to help Develop a Creative Industry that is more Professional, Transparent and Profitable for All, utilising Music as a Driver”, says Mike Strano – Founder of PHAT! Music & Entertainment Limited.
Meaning “Speak up” in Kiswahili, ONGEA! evolved out of KENYA MUSIC WEEK, which was Founded in 2004, to Create an Accessible public Forum for Industry Stakeholders (i.e. Musicians, Producers, Promoters, Distributors Media, Consumers, Government & Non-Governmental Organisations) to interact and produce Solutions to Industry Challenges.
The first-ever KENYA MUSIC WEEK was Successfully held in Nairobi’s Sarit Centre Expo Hall for 4 days, from Thursday 9th to Sunday 12th December in 2004; followed by one every December, for a Total of 10 Years, bringing together more than 20,000 local & international music Stakeholders, for over 100,000 Visits.
After a Decade, it was then Time to Refresh the Concept of KENYA MUSIC WEEK, so we Broadened the Scope to Eastern Africa (16 Countries), and Rebranded in 2016 to ONGEA! – The Eastern Africa Music Summit, held every 1st Quarter.
ONGEA! has been Hybrid since Inception, with February 2020 being our last Event at Sarit Centre, before the Pandemic.
So, the 6th ONGEA! Eastern Africa Music Summit was successfully held 100% Online, on Monday 22nd – Wednesday 24th February 2021, with Interest and Participation from Experts of over 25 Countries, around the World.
